For a foreign student, it is not easy to adapt but there is some assurance that classmates would be cooperative and helpful. On the first day of school, try to be on a low profile because some boys do not want competition with the female classmates. It is best to befriend the boys first so you can have a support group. Just be wary of vices that the boys will teach you like smoking and drinking, worse doing drugs.

With the homework, the teacher might be strict so you should focus on the lesson and try to accomplish the homework. Think like a scholar who is worth emulating when it comes to the test results and homework. By the way, learn how to be the butt of jokes with your grammar since you are learning Tagalog. People tend to laugh at your grammar mistakes and just ride on with the fun. Foreigners are funny when they speak wrongly so never be offended.

Just take note that each school has its own rules and culture in the campus. If you think you are not welcome then choose another school. But if you are already enrolled then try to get one friend at a time to be your support group. Students are sometimes indifferent only in the beginning but they are generally friendly to foreigners.

When it comes to cheating in exams always be prudent because it is a shame if you are caught. Some teachers would shame you and even involve your nationality. You don’t want to be smeared like that so good behavior is a must all the time. Being friendly with everyone will bring you to places in school work and performance.

Always remember that almost all schools have their scholarship program. Inquire about it and take note of the required grade to qualify. A full scholar is exempted from paying the tuition fee while the half scholar pays only half of the tuition fee. It not difficult to be a scholar as long as you have the perseverance to be a good and diligent student.

I think some schools have a program for foreign students particularly those who are not good in English. There is an extra subject in learning not only English but also Tagalog which is essential for a foreigner. Maybe the government’s education authorities should also add a subject for foreigners to learn the culture and the traditions here.
